Understanding How Your Emotions & Thoughts Are Connected

"If we face our unpleasant feelings with care, affection, and nonviolence, we can transform them into the kind of energy that is healthy and has the capacity to nourish us".

"By the work of mindful observation, our unpleasant feelings can illuminate so much for us, offering us insight and understanding into ourselves & society."

-Thich Nhat Hanh

This idea of emotions impacting health was never discussed by any of my doctors and is still not discussed in the main stream medical model. This is why I write about these different topics. I want to save you from some of the challenges and hardships I went through if possible. Even though modern day science is finally catching up to these ancient healing practices and theories (from thousands of years ago) it is still not considered "real science" by many doctors or "experts" in the field.

Mindset is all about changing your thoughts because thoughts cause your feelings. But I've learned this premise is not always necessarily true. Louise Hay has a famous quote "A thought is just a thought and can be changed'. Her book, You Can Heal Your Life, was the first book I read on healing and I admit I didn't buy into any of it for a few years. But something inside of me told me to keep it and I have kept returning to it over the past decade.

If you are familiar with her work, you know that she goes deeper into DIS ease as more than just our thoughts. She also addresses the physical body as well as the underlying belief systems that keep us stuck in dis ease and illness. The emphasis is on mindfulness not mindset. She addresses all aspects of the body for whole body healing not just the mental and physical that modern day medicine focuses on.

This belief about emotions and thoughts, is not yours perse. But you've been raised to believe them as true. Many are filled with harmful and incorrect judgements and expectations but are considered the "norm". This is why you have automatic reactions and thoughts that fill your mind most of the day. The worst part of this truth is that many are predominantly negative. Until you recognize, and take responsibility for the fact that they aren't actually helping you, but instead may be causing more stress and DIS ease to the whole body and spirit.

As it is normal in our society to disassociate, numb out and ignore the messages from your body. But this I argue is why society is so unwell...mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. You have been taught that your emotions aren't real or important.

When you hold your breath or breathe shallowly to avoid feeling your emotions and sensations you are signaling to the body that you are in danger. This causes the system to shut down, and brace for impact and destruction. You cannot heal in this state, instead you are creating more DIS ease and stress to the body as a whole.

The body experiences external sensations and then sends the message over to the brain to analyze and decipher but all of your felt senses first happen in the body. Your emotions are valid and necessary for daily life. They are energy in motion that are designed to keep you safe and aware of the world around you.

Have you noticed a theme yet? The body is constantly trying to keep you safe even if it doesn't seem logical to your mind or beliefs. Emotions are also neutral. They are assigned duality making them good or bad from expectations and life experiences. And, when you stifle them, and don't let allow them be expressed by the body, they don't go away. Instead, they just linger and cause anxiety, pain and other symptoms. The book Feelings Buried Alive Never Die by Karol K. Truman talks about this extensively if you want to learn more.

I have found practicing Breathwork and Energy Medicine techniques to be gentle and effective ways of releasing my stuck past emotions. These emotions can be your own or inherited. I think the best thing is that you don't have to re-experience or name the past events; the body knows what is ready to be released.

When you can trust that the body knows what to do, it releases and heals all on its own. Easy right? Well the hard part is in the allowing it to happen. Which is where you as a human get in your own way....

The good news is you have access to me. And I am passionate about teaching you how to interpret the valuable messages your body communicates through its symptoms. By unlocking this profound insight, you can take charge of your health and reclaim control of your life. Let me be your guide to a brighter, healthier future.

It's time to embrace a fresh perspective on healing and discover the intelligence and power within you. Together, we'll find the keys to unlock your true potential so you can live life to the fullest. Healing is hard and it takes courage to choose something different. My hope is that you choose health and life, over survival and abandonment of yourself.

Remember it’s never too late to try something new,

Amy
