The Battle Between Darkness & Light

“Remember that you have a choice in what you see. If you choose to see a person's darkness, you strengthen your darkness within.

If you choose to see their light, you shine from the inside out.”

~Gabrielle Bernstein

As humans we feel more comfortable in the struggle and the darkness but our souls crave the lightness and brightness that is always present too. With the Winter Solstice approaching the difference between light and dark is apparent. Humans are wired for a negative bias and it can be hard to switch this mechanism off. It is a practice of awareness and a choice in each new moment to look for the light even if all you at first see is darkness.

We are complex beings and in the brilliance of the duality is where the healing can be found; as well as the insight, the innate wisdom and our higher selves. This is the hard work as pain, illness, disease, shame and unworthiness thrive in the judgment zones of who we can blame and what we or they have done to cause this to happen to us. It can seem harder to turn to the light as it seems too simple and easy of a solution, a quick fix that won't last. I promise you that when you are open to more from life it can be revealed to you. When we let the Universe know we are free to receive you can find that you be guided to the next right step ahead on your path.

I agree that it can be hard to be vulnerable and to ask for what you need, especially if you don't know what that is. And it can be even harder to put your own needs first before others because it goes against the opposite of what we've been taught. But, I've found through my experiences and extensive research that this is what is needed for us to heal as humans. It isn't about being selfish, this is different. Its about taking care of yourself which is crucial to your own survival. In order to be healthy, whole and healed its important to put your needs first. Then once you are resourced you will have more than enough to give to help someone else.

By celebrating the seasonal transitions as our ancestors did, we can connect with them and the wisdom of tradition and ritual. Something we no longer are taught or perform. I find that being in ritual throughout my day grounds and connects me to a higher power and reminds me that I'm not alone. With ritual we honor those who have come before us, those who will come after us and the stories they continue to share.

When we respect the natural cycles of Mother Earth, the home we live in and on we can discover ourselves; by living with purpose and expressing gratitude for what we have and what we've experienced. When we create and honor the rituals around our lunar cycles, our sun transits, our seasonal foundations there is less of a need for the busyness of life. We are awakened to our soul and consciousness because we are living within Her rhythms. Flowing as She flows, allowing the wind to carry and bring to us what we need for continued insight on our journey.
